Join us for a workshop that will help when submitting your book arts work for grants, or shows and exhibitions! This is also a perfect prep-step to Art of the Book 2018, the seventh juried exhibition of CBBAG members’ work, which will be held in Victoria, BC.
Saturday, Nov. 5th 10 am – 3 pm
Place: Regina, SK, location TBA
Instructors: Gail F. Chin & Kathy Hamre
Gail F. Chin, PhD (UCLA) taught art history at the Visual Arts Dept. of the University of Regina since 1998. Since retirement she has taken up her childhood dream of being a photographer. She has had a one person show and participated in a number of group shows. She also writes and photographs for the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Part 1 is a workshop on documenting book art in photographic form. Attendees should bring their own cameras, tripods and laptop computers, and one piece of work they might want to document. If one does not have access to this equipment, some will be available from the instructor during the workshop. This is a hands-on workshop with students learning how to present their work professionally with as little digital processing as possible. Some problems to be discussed will be: reflections, lighting, depth of field, software programs, apps, etc.
Part 2 is writing an artist’s statement that might be used to accompany a portfolio for grant or graduate school application. If the attendees have a body of work done, it is often easier to write the artist’s statement, so please bring sketchbooks or slides of your own works would prove to be useful. Note paper will be provided.
Cost: members $30, non-members $40 (payable at the workshop)
