Introductory Paper-Making Weekend – Lumsden, SK

unnamed

The Lumsden and District Arts Council is hosting an Introductory Paper-Making Weekend with Gerda Osteneck

Dates: Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th, 2017

Location: River Park Centre, Lumsden, SK

Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both days

Gerda says… paper-making is an ancient practice offering infinite possibilities for your art projects! Join me and I’ll teach you how to prepare fibre into pulp, make screens & deckles so you can pull beautiful sheets of paper using a minimum of space and equipment. I’ll show you how to create texture, smooth finish, and coloured papers. I will also demonstrate, and provide instructions for some of the uses for hand made papers.

You may bring recyclables such as dried or fresh flowers, old scraps of paper or fibrous material to incorporate into your paper. Cotton and linen scraps can also be shredded for use.

I will provide the fibre and equipment. I will also bring some simple products to add colours to your papers.

unnamed (1)

On Saturday we will leap into production after a very brief introduction and will make papers of various kinds and sizes. We can hang the paper to dry overnight.

On Sunday we will finish drying and use some of your papers in small projects to demonstrate some creative uses for handmade paper (hummm, might this involve some book-making maybe?!?)

Bring your lunch each day as we will take a short break mid-way through.

If anyone has a collapsible drying rack, please bring that too.

Fee: $75 for members  ($85 for non-members*)

Class limit: 12 participants

Registration:  Send your fees to Box 1214, Lumsden, SK  S0G 3C0 or drop into ArtSpace on Tuesday morning. Contact Rosemary for more information: schumanng@sasktel.net

Lumsden and District Arts Council Workshops

The Lumsden and District Arts Council is offering two workshops this winter that may be of interest! Priority for registration is given to local residents up to 2 weeks before each class (“local” means you live within the Lumsden school district), but if there are spots left others can join!

Making Your Mark… An Introduction to Wheat Paste Paper Decoration

image00

date:  Sunday, February 5

time:  9:00 – 4:00 p.m.

location:  Centennial Hall, Lumsden, SK

Wheat Paste is an incredibly expressive medium which allows you to embed “your mark” directly on a wide range of papers and fabrics. Think “finger painting for adults” – making marks and designs with simple tools, stencils and stamps.  We will then start adding multiple layers with other collage materials, colored pencils, and felt pens.

They’re fun and easy to make.  You’ll go home with a large supply of unique papers for future projects – for cards, collages, book covers, or gift wrappings.

Book Yourself In

image00-1

date:  Sunday, February 12

time:  9:00 – 4:00 p.m.

location:  Centennial Hall, Lumsden, SK

In this workshop you will learn the folding, cutting, and some simple sewing procedures involved in making both paper and hard covered books as well as the basics of bookmaking.  We’ll then proceed to variations of accordion books – some are sewn, some are simply folded, and all of them are fun!  All are easy, quick books and ideal as handcrafted gifts.  Books are a wonderful way to use your own handmade and/or decorated papers as well as combining with other commercial and recycled papers. No bookbinding experience is necessary.

Fees and Registration

Fees for each class are $75 for members and $85 for non-members. Membership fees are $10 per year.

To register, or for more information, please contact: maderbd@sasktel.net

To ensure your place in the class send a cheque made out to Lumsden and District Arts Council to Box 1214, Lumsden, SK, S0G 3C0 or bring the cheque to ArtSpace on Tuesday morning or Thursday evening.
