Introductory Paper-Making Weekend – Lumsden, SK

The Lumsden and District Arts Council is hosting an Introductory Paper-Making Weekend with Gerda Osteneck

Dates: Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th, 2017

Location: River Park Centre, Lumsden, SK

Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both days

Gerda says… paper-making is an ancient practice offering infinite possibilities for your art projects! Join me and I’ll teach you how to prepare fibre into pulp, make screens & deckles so you can pull beautiful sheets of paper using a minimum of space and equipment. I’ll show you how to create texture, smooth finish, and coloured papers. I will also demonstrate, and provide instructions for some of the uses for hand made papers.

You may bring recyclables such as dried or fresh flowers, old scraps of paper or fibrous material to incorporate into your paper. Cotton and linen scraps can also be shredded for use.

I will provide the fibre and equipment. I will also bring some simple products to add colours to your papers.

unnamed (1)

On Saturday we will leap into production after a very brief introduction and will make papers of various kinds and sizes. We can hang the paper to dry overnight.

On Sunday we will finish drying and use some of your papers in small projects to demonstrate some creative uses for handmade paper (hummm, might this involve some book-making maybe?!?)

Bring your lunch each day as we will take a short break mid-way through.

If anyone has a collapsible drying rack, please bring that too.

Fee: $75 for members  ($85 for non-members*)

Class limit: 12 participants

Registration:  Send your fees to Box 1214, Lumsden, SK  S0G 3C0 or drop into ArtSpace on Tuesday morning. Contact Rosemary for more information: schumanng@sasktel.net

Long & Linkstitch Books with Susan Mills

Yesterday was the first in a planned, ongoing series of workshops called Day in Davidson. All twelve participants were able to attend and had a good time learning to sew longstitch and linkstitch books under the excellent instruction of Susan Mills. Most of this post is pictures of Susan’s hands, as she taught by demonstrating each step of the process. Here are some of Susan’s books to give you an idea of what we were learning.

We had a bit of show and tell at lunchtime. Here Kathy Hamre explains the structure of a travel book that she made.

And as a demonstration of the diligence of Susan’s students, here’s a picture of Robin Canham working very hard!

Everyone had a wonderful time. This was a great start to the Day in Davidson series. Thanks to Susan for her excellent instructions and for generously donating the materials for the workshop.
